This week's painting homework was a self portrait. This was pretty challenging. There are some things I would change next time, but overall I'm fairly happy considering I have not painted the figure or face before.
Today we went up to the Pittock Mansion. It was beautiful up there, and a great opportunity to study atmospheric perspective. I had a lot of fun working on my painting up there. The picture that I took of the painting ended up a bit darker than it looked in person, but it's hard to capture what it looks like in real life.
The homework was to take the same setup/composition and paint it three times. Once during the morning, once during the afternoon and once during the evening. The aim being to study the way the colors and light change through the day. It was pretty fun but by the time I was finishing up with my last painting, I was pretty tired of painting the scene. Though I did learn a lot, so that's nice. :)
