Painting - Self Portrait

This week's painting homework was a self portrait. This was pretty challenging. There are some things I would change next time, but overall I'm fairly happy considering I have not painted the figure or face before.

Painting on Location 8.13.11

Today we went up to the Pittock Mansion. It was beautiful up there, and a great opportunity to study atmospheric perspective. I had a lot of fun working on my painting up there. The picture that I took of the painting ended up a bit darker than it looked in person, but it's hard to capture what it looks like in real life.

Painting on Location Homework

The homework was to take the same setup/composition and paint it three times. Once during the morning, once during the afternoon and once during the evening. The aim being to study the way the colors and light change through the day. It was pretty fun but by the time I was finishing up with my last painting, I was pretty tired of painting the scene. Though I did learn a lot, so that's nice. :)

8.7.11 Painting

Today I was working on painting homework, I was getting a little frustrated with my previous painting, and as I was going to call it quits for the day, I saw the dead wreath hanging on our house (how sad I know). But the colors were very cool so I decided to paint it.

Painting on Location 8.6.11

Today's painting was so much fun! I felt so inspired by the statue of Teddy Roosevelt that the painting seemed to really come together well. All of my classmates were so helpful during the process, and especially Za was.

The second drawing is different from the first (obviously). After drawing my composition up there, it wasn't really what I was going for. So I started over. I was much happier with the second drawing. The last picture on there is way over exposed due to the fact that the painting was in direct sunlight when I took the picture.

This is the final painting. I am really happy with how it turned out.

7.30.11 Painting

This was the homework assignment due this week. I made a few adjustments after I took this photo, such as darkening up the blue background and making the orange frame look like it continues behind the glass better. This was a fun project, though since my easel only just came in Friday, I had to paint it holding it on my lap.

These were the warmup paintings that I did today in the park. Each one took about 20 minutes or so. I had a little bit of a harder time getting the ball rolling today, but I had fun none the less.

This was the main painting I did today. There was a really interesting tree that I studied. The colors were so awesome! I did a lot of traveling today with this easel and painting and I did so well not smudging it at all until the instant I stepped through the door of my house. I was able to save it though.

First Location Painting

I am taking a painting on location class this term. Week 1 was about shape and decision making in painting. Here is a painting that I did for the first week homework.
