Monster Short - Sneak character look

My friend Norman Morana and I have been working on a flash animation short together. So far we are past the character design part, moving in to background/layout and animation.
Since my end is the flash rig and animation, I wanted to show a little bit of what I have worked on.

Here are the designs of both the monster character and Emaline. Later I will post more process art.

So far the rig is limited. We are trying a new process of using illustrator line effects to make the character look less "like flash". We love the line quality but are currently troubleshooting import and size issues.

"Bubbles" PrePro Concept Sketches

So the mermaid story has officially been chosen, and it's a story titled "Bubbles". More on that later. A more solid idea of the mermaid has been selected. We are moving forward with this character design:
But we need to make a few more adjustments. For example: Although the connected fin going down the sides to the bottom is an interesting design element, animating those fins is too challenging for the students. So we had to mainly think about a side fin that would be easier to animate.

Mermaid PreProduction Concept Sketches 8.5.11

Yesterday's sketches were a lot of fun. I really enjoyed working more with the characters, especially the mermaid. I feel like we may be getting closer to a cool, unique design for her.

Hercules Style Character part 2 - Color Ideas

So I was thinking about possible skin and hair color combinations. I don't know how much further I'll take this project, but it was fun working with the color. I tried to focus more on thinking about different contrast in value of the colors used.

Hercules Style Character

The task for this set was: Draw a character, and then redesign the character to fit in the world/style of Hercules and bring the drawing to completion. I had a lot of fun working on this character. I might bring it to color a little later even. :)

This is the original character sketch I drew.

I wanted to see if I liked the chest bare or covered, so I did two different versions.

There are more drawings in this full process shot. I felt that the legs needed adjusting to make the character feel more balanced. It was a minor adjustment, but one that I felt helped the drawing.

Overall I had a lot of fun with this project. I do hope to color it some day. :)
